Alzheimer’s is an extremely debilitating disease which afflicts a large portion of the population. In one sense it is explainable as the dying of certain cells within the brain. This is when the memory of the individual begins to slowly fail. In the beginning it is hardly noticeable, but after a time it begins to show. In a sense with regards to the brain function and the synapses of the inner working of the electrical impulses of the brain, the same effect begins to take place even with diabetes. It is irrelevant whether the individual is stricken with pre-diabetes, type-1 diabetes, type-2 diabetes, or type-3 diabetes, the end result is the same.

Researches over the past few years have discovered a revelation and found there is a distinct correlation between Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. The common denominator between the two is with the natural production of insulin. Researchers always believed and in time proved the manufacture of insulin within the pancreas through a set of beta cells. In recent years other scientist through the use of more advanced technical equipment found that insulin also develops within the workings of the brain function.

In Alzheimer’s disease the progression is painfully slow as the insulin production within the brain begins to decline. In regards to diabetes the healthy, functioning pancreas also begins the slow decline in the production of insulin, but even today researchers are not sure how or why this is occurring. The neurons within the brain structure suddenly go awry and at this stage the researchers refer to this as the death of cells. The malformation of the designated brain cells producing the insulin begin to change cell structure and abnormalities in the signals for insulin production become rearranged.

Functions of the brain with these abnormalities are now entering a different realm by definition into the neuron-endocrine system which with this move places Alzheimer’s disease within the same range as diabetes. Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes show a downward spiral of insulin and the disruption of normal bodily functions which prove these two diseases are related. The interesting question for all researchers and the medical physicians is do they change their methods of treatment and incorporate Alzheimer’s as another extension of diabetes and call it type-4 diabetes?

Alzheimer’s disease like diabetes both have the potential to be very deadly. What are interesting are the diabetic symptoms which are noticeably similar from a medical point of observation. The many causes of diabetes and the traditional treatments for diabetes are constantly evolving as the researchers and medical scientist find new diabetic medicine to treat the symptoms for diabetes. Some of the medical professionals today are beginning to apply some of the diabetes information learned to individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. However, this is still a break through study and it will take time before a more definitive result makes an appearance.

Traditional diabetes meal planners are beginning to train caregivers whose attention is in the field of Alzheimer’s disease. Perhaps by increasing the types of foods fed to the Alzheimer individuals it will help to slow the progression of the Alzheimer’s disease. This is such a new study that there are still many researchers and medical scientist who remain skeptical in the cause and effect of including Alzheimer’s disease as part of the study with diabetes.

Researchers and medical scientists today are working very diligently to search further for the correlation between Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. In the many years to come perhaps the break through discoveries will finally bring the secrets that are so difficult to find into the light. A better understanding of how these two murderous diseases function now have the potential of unlocking the door to success.
