Cell Transplant on the Horizon

Individuals with pre-diabetes, type-1 diabetes, type-2 diabetes, and type-3 diabetes all must concern themselves with the prospects of the individual’s pancreas not functioning as it would under normal conditions. The beta cells within the pancreas is where the insulin is manufactured and excreted into the individual’s blood stream during certain active periods of the individual’s daily routine. Individuals with a diabetes diagnosis of type-1 diabetes do have a problem because their pancreas ceased producing the life saving insulin. The medical physician will discuss the alternative lifestyle the individual must adjust to in order to remain healthy.

However, there is currently a new study into the cell structures and the functions beginning to change the mind set of many researchers and medical scientists in the field of diabetes. Obviously it will be years down the road before any of the research and studies return with a proof positive case, but perhaps these specialists are finally traveling down a new road. Innovative ideas are beginning to evolve around finding a true cure and no longer researching ways to mask the symptoms to keep the individual comfortable.

Specialists in the study of diabetes are researching the transplanting of the beta cells within an individual’s pancreas. The main issue with this new way of thinking is because it is these beta cells within the pancreas that actually do the producing of the insulin and not the entire pancreas. These same researchers and medical scientists are finding through their experiments that to transplant an entire pancreas is unnecessary now that they have isolated the beta cells that produce and monitor the natural insulin.

Collection of donor cells may take the medical community time to put into place and have it activated, but given enough time all things are possible. The point is that there is a renewed hope in locating a cure for diabetes and therefore offering individuals inflicted with diabetes hope for a final cure. Individuals who have insulin dependent diabetes can begin to breathe a little easier with this new progression in the in depth study of diabetes.

Difficulties and loop holes still are fresh and new so it will be a number of years before the trial studies are incorporated into mainstream practice. Patience and an abundance of knowledge through an open mind will one day soon lead to a cure for diabetes. The difficulties and problems the researchers and medical scientists are coming across are situations to tackle one at a time. The one main difficulty with transplanting the beta cells is the same as with all transplants and that is the problems with the individual’s body not recognizing the implant and treating it as a foreign object which it is in reality.

Individuals diagnoses with one of the forms of diabetes will receive hope of these cell transplants instead of a lifetime of constant monitoring. These same individuals however, are subject to spending the remainder of their lives on medication to fool the body once the transplanting of the beta cells becomes an every day accomplishment. In essence the individual will be free of diabetes in the future and will have the opportunity to live out a happy, healthy life. The new reality is in living with medication to keep the individual’s body from rejecting the transplant.
