There are number of causes for the recent rise of diabetes in general, but the confirmed facts resort back to the constant and perpetual diet many in the westernized countries partake. This sudden increase in individuals receiving a diagnosis of diabetes type 1 or diabetes type 2 does point to the type of diet one follows on a daily basis. Instead of preparing meals whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner most individuals prefer the faster way of ordering out, eating out, or stopping at any number of the fast food restaurants. It is fine to stop off and order a meal to bring home once in a while. However, when individuals make a daily ritual of this type of behavior they are asking for trouble in the future.

Fast food restaurants offer meals with high contents of refined sugar, salt, and saturated fats which the body is unable to withstand on a daily basis. Individuals diagnosed with metabolic syndrome must receive an education through their family medical physician on meal planning. The individual receiving a diagnosis of diabetes will need to make a few adjustments to their eating habit, as it is a matter of health. Those individuals diagnosed with type 1 diabetes will have an easier time temporarily because if they refuse to change their eating habits and lifestyle it will only get worse over time.

Individuals have an insatiable love affair with sugar and sweetener today that has grown far out of hand. It is no wonder that there is a very large portion of the population suffering from pre-diabetes, type-1 diabetes, type-2 diabetes, and type-3 diabetes. Everything we eat is one form or another has sugar involved somewhere in the food or in the recipe. Perhaps this is the main cause of diabetes in younger and younger children when we did not have this in epidemic proportions before this point. The other difficulty lies with the junk food that sold everywhere and so easily accessible. This is unfortunate for the individuals diagnosed with diabetes, but there are many other individuals not inflicted with diabetes.

Individuals inflicted with diabetes and has a high sugar level then proper nutrition is in order. The daily diabetic foods are available in most grocery stores along with fresh vegetables which are the green leafy kind. Vegetables such as string beans, green beans, spinach, and asparagus are a good choice to begin with for daily meal planning. Vegetables such as corn, yellow squash, and other yellow vegetables are avoidable because they do contain ingredients that are not as healthy and the green leafy vegetables.

Fresh fruits such as bananas, strawberries, peaches, apples, pears, oranges, and tangerines are another refreshing choice instead of cupcakes, cookies, candies, and other not so appealing foods for the diabetic. Interesting about bananas too because a banana a day replenishes the potassium each and every individual loses during the course of the day, so eating one banana per day is something for the individual to consider when pushing that shopping cart or trolley around in the grocery store.

Few tips and words of advice for the individual inflicted with diabetes are the following:

  • Eat lots of fiber, such as brown rice, oatmeal, and beans
  • Eat lean meats such as poultry and fish, but broiled not fried.
  • Avoid processed foods and white sugars, flours, pastas, and rice
  • Supplements added to the daily diet to help boost the body
  • Natural, fresh herbs such as juniper berries, garlic, and licorice

Individuals who are in the program for insulin dependent diabetes must take care and discuss any new changes in exercise and with the American diabetes diet to bring the body back to a much healthier state. The individual must understand that this all takes time and the outcome will take a few months.
