People suffering from diabetes can benefit from juicing to control their blood sugar levels. A diabetic diet requires good carbohydrates, which is often found in fruit and vegetables. The diet should also be low in red meats, which causes elevated iron in the bloodstream. Too much iron called heme iron in the blood has also been linked with diabetes.

Juicing

There is no great mystery behind juicing, what juicing means is that you take the fresh juice from the raw fruit and vegetables. You are already familiar with concentrated fruit juices that you buy in the grocery store, only they are often loaded with sugar and all the things a person with diabetes mellitus really doesn’t need. When you juice yourself, you know exactly what you are getting and that is pure fruit juice.

Particular juices for diabetics

For good health a diabetic will need a daily supply of any one of these particular combinations. In juicing you will mix the fruits and vegetables to create a healthy and tasty fruit or vegetable medley. You can use any combination of ginger, asparagus, garlic, leek, beets, celery, parsley, spinach, pumpkin, carrots, and cabbage.

Fresh green vegetables such as string beans and brussel sprouts not only are a great healthy food they are also rich in natural insulin.

Other beneficial fruits and vegetables

Diabetes is a metabolic disease, which affects the normal functioning of the pancreas. Foods and nutrients containing silicon will help support the pancreas to properly absorb the sugar in the blood and send it to the cells for energy. The foods, which can support this process, are alfalfa, radishes, olives, cabbage, asparagus, mustard greens, and cucumbers.

You must however, be careful about the amount of fruit juices you are drinking as they already contain natural sugar and your problem is that you have high blood sugar levels as it is. When you are using sweet juices such as apple, carrot, beet, pear, or grape juice you need to dilute the juices so they are half juice and half water, or you can combine them with other juices that have little or no sugar such as celery.

Evidence for juicing that can lower high blood glucose levels

According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians the bitter melon plant contains three or more compounds, which can lower blood glucose levels in the blood. They recommend 2 ounces per day.

Another juice, mangosteen, which can be used, provided, it is supervised by a qualified medical doctor or dietitian. It may also lower blood sugar levels in individuals suffering from type 2 diabetes. Only use one ounce a day.

Spoilage

You should only make as much raw juice combinations as you are going to be able to consume at one time. Even though it is convenient to make up extra, refrigerating raw juices is not advised as it will allow it to oxidize and then they loose their medicinal properties in just 10 minutes.

Juicing and Drugs and side affects

Certain juices such as grapefruit and bitter lemon will interfere with certain medications such as blood pressure therefore you should also advise your doctor about raw juicing before starting the program. Bitter lemon can cause hypoglycemia when combined with certain diabetic drugs such as glyburide, chlorpropamine, phenformin, or insulin. Pregnant women must consult with their doctors before going on a juicing program. It is not recommended that children under 6 years of age drink more than 6 ounces of juice a day.

Do not use excessive amounts of tomato or citrus juices as they are very acidity and can interfere with the body’s natural ph balance levels.Certain studies have shown that from the American Foundation of Traditional Chinese medicine, too much intake of bitter lemon can cause abdominal pain or diarrhea.
