Although there is no set pre diabetic diet, the foods we do eat or don’t eat are important factors in controlling diabetes. The person’s age, weight, and health conditions will all make a difference on what type of diet is right for them. Most pre diabetic diets are similar in what is actually consumed, but the amount of calories, and carbohydrates, along with portion size, will vary, depending on the person. Your doctor should set a diet plan to fit your personal needs, and to help control your pre diabetic condition.
There are several common things people can do as pre diabetics, to help them ward off type 2 diabetes. The diet they eat, as well as there sleeping and exercise habits are key things to avoid diabetes. Avoiding in between snacks between meals is one thing. Most snacks are high in sugar and will raise the glucose level in the blood. Eating smaller portions of your main meals and overall consumption of food throughout your day is another helpful preventative. The less food you eat, the less bad ingredients you consume, therefore your risk declines. In other words, don’t overindulge anything.
There are many food types that should be avoided, or at least limited for pre diabetics. Many dairy products are not good for pre diabetics. Butter, cream, sour cream, lards and drippings are all things that cause diabetic conditions, and should be avoided by pre diabetics. It’s not easy giving up dairy products, so try low fat milk, yogurts, and Ice creams, when you do have a craving for dairy items. Lean meat is the best choice for a pre diabetic diet. Chicken, especially without the skin, is one of the best choices. Cheese is another negative food for diabetics. If you eat cheese, try to limit it or consume a low fat variety of cheese. Avoid all fatty foods, such as take out chicken, and burgers, battered fish, salty snacks such as chips, and French fries. Cakes, pies, puddings and chocolates should be saved for special occasions, not consumed as a regular diet. Having these things once in a while should not be a factor, but if consumed on aRegular basis, it can cause a diabetic disorder, or even develop into type 2 diabetes, it you are a pre diabetic. Tomato, andSoy sauces are the best choice. Avoid creamy soups, and sauces. Eat lots of vegetables canned or fresh are both fine. Fresh or dried fruit is also a great pre diabetic food item.
